New Zealand has a South Island and North Island. It is commonly known as Aotearoa, which originates with the Maori.

 

New Zealand also has Stewart Island, Waikehe Island, the Great Barrier Island and the Chatham Islands. Other parts of New Zealand include Auckland, Tauranga, Wananui, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch.

 

Abel Tasman was among the first European settlers to inhabit New Zealand. Captain Cook explored the area as well.

 

New Zealand was involved with the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi.

 

New Zealand was filmed in The Lord of the Rings and The Last Samurai.

 

Among the celebrated days are New Year’s, Waitangi Day, the Queen’s Birthday, Labour Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
